Why you should focus on body composition rather than the scales
The scales can be are worst enemy, they love to play tricks on us and make us think we are not progressing as much as we actually are.
There are so many factors that can affect the number that appears on the scales when we step on them:
Are you wearing different clothes?
Are you weighing yourself at a different time of day?
Are you using different scales?
Have you eaten differently before jumping on the scales?
Did you eat a big meal the night before?
How much liquid have you consumed ion the last 12-24 hours?
Have you had your morning poo yet?
These are just a few small factors that can affect the number on the scales, IRRELEVANT of our body composition.
Body composition, what is it? - It is what our body is made up of, so the 5 of fat, water, muscle and other bits and bats.
If your clothes are fitting better, jeans are getting a little looser and your waist is going down, this means you are losing body fat. If this is the case the question you should ask yourself is do you really care what the scales say? IF your goal is to reduce your body fat.
Over and over again I deal with people who have lost cm’s from there waist/legs/arms and are over the moon with it, we then step them on the scale and they see it has ‘only gone down 2lbs’ and they instantly get demoralised. Simply because at some point in time we put a huge value on what the scale says.
If we spend more time focusing on how we feel inside, how our clothes fit and how we feel about ourselves as opposed to putting such a high value on what the scales say we will be more likely to get the results that we want.
Constantly putting ourselves down because we ‘only lost 1lb this week’ isn’t going to help. Also side point, even 1lb per week consistently is 52lbs per year which is nearly 4 stone. So even 1lb per week is pretty impressive.
Stop looking at things on such a short timeline. Think more about longevity, this way you don’t have to sacrifice too much either. Everything in moderation and you will get the results you want so much.
