Why everybody should care about strength training!
Strength training - too many people now a days are worried/scared to even try it. More often than not if they are honest with themselves it is because they can’t be bothered to start as it is not easy.
Therefore anyone who has got themself ‘in-shape’ through strength training has done so by ‘genetics/luck/probably steroids/don’t have the same problems as me….blah blah blah blah’. Basically we love to think someone else has got to where they have through something other than just some hard work and consistency.
We live in a society where for some reason we are more willing to let things get so bad that we have to be told by a doctor that if we don’t change something it is going to impact us this way or that way, ultimately putting us in an early grave. When it gets to this point, starting something like a strength training routine feels impossible to do which is why we always look for the quick fixes such as fat loss pills/shakes/jabs/operations etc.
The problem with these are that they are not fixing the problem, simply masking it. The problem is YOU, your lifestyle choices, your diet choices, everything is down to you and your choices. So when you take the magic pill/jab/operation and you ‘get rid’ of the excess weight and feel better, it is al most 100% likely to come back because you haven’t earnt the weight loss, you haven’t put the work in to lose the weight. So you will fall back into old habits and the weight will creep back on and the rest is history. Either that or you will be drinking some meal replacement shakes for the rest of your life so that you can still go drink 2 bottles of wine at the weekend.
Let’s remove weight loss from the equation at the moment, strength training has an insane amount of benefits:
Improved bone density
Improved joint health
Improvedf cognitive function
Improved energy levels
Improved quality of sleep
Improved mental health
Improved self esteem
Improved mood
Improved levels of confidence
These are just a few, all of which will improve the longevity of your life and the quality of your life. If you focus on these points and use this as the motivation for keeping yourself fit and healthy the weight/body fat goals will come with it over time if you remain consistent.
I don’t know why we need to get to the point in life where we are told we will end up in an early grave for us to actually want to do something about our health. I just wish that people would look past the money making scams that prey on peoples vulnerability and insecurities and just put some work in and improve the quality of your life the right way.
You will literally add years onto your life.
